Long Islander Sandra Martinez is the new Bilingual Outreach Coordinator for the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support program, located in Garden City.
In this role, she will be responsible for Program Coordination of the Breast Education Program, which provides community-based breast cancer outreach, education, and referrals for free or low-cost screenings in underserved communities across Long Island.
Mrs. Martinez, a native of Colombia, received a bachelors Degree in Social Communications and Journalism from Bogota and emigrated to the United States in 1997. For the past 16 years, she has worked for the Child Care Council of Nassau as a bilingual parent counselor, providing information to parents and assisting them to meet childcare needs. As a Latina and as an immigrant woman, I understand the barriers minorities face, she says. Because of that, I want to make a difference and help people as best I can.
Mrs. Martinez has lived in Valley Stream for 19 years with her husband, son, and Golden, their lovely golden retriever dog.
