’s play a vital role on campus by sharing with fellow students crucial information on health and wellness issues through campaigns and events.
student Katherin Ramirez has been a peer educator since her first semester at Adelphi, having been inspired by her own experiences with the peer educators when her mother was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.
“When my mother was diagnosed, the first thing I did was go onto Google and try to educate myself on the disease,” she said. “I was horrified and scared. However, I used my resources on campus to receive knowledge on the topic—such as the peer educators, the hotline here on campus, and, of course, my peer adviser Lisa Vernale, who is a survivor. After attending several events, I knew I wanted to be a part of a program like this…students teaching students on the things that affect them the most.”
