Stories from three psychology majors about their undergraduate internship experiences.

Garden City, NY, December 10, 2013—A snowfall that began early in the day has blanketed the campus in white and made roads difficult to travel. Yet, the 11 psychology majors who participated in Adelphi’s innovativeÌýÌýhave made it to their final class and are ready to present posters about their internship experiences.

When their professor,ÌýFrancine Conway,ÌýM.A. ’96, Ph.D. ’99, chair ofÌýÌýand creator of the internship program, arrives, the students launch in. What unfolds is a glimpse of the many lessons the students gained from their richly varied experiences.

Through interviews, a few of the students gave even more detailed reflections, and we share them with you here.

What began as a half-year internship working with children with special learning needsÌýhas grown into a yearlong experience.

Served as a learning strategist supporting students at Adelphi with autism spectrum disorder, social anxiety disorders and other nonverbal learning disabilities.

Gained experience in both the clinical and industrial and organizational areas of psychology.
