The Center for Career Development has helped Jacqueline Ferro to become the leader and professional she is today.

Jacqueline Ferro, a senior, first became involved with91Թ’s Center for Career Developmentworking for the America Reads/America Countsprogram with Karen Autry, assistant director foremployer relations. She continued to tap into the center’sinvaluable resources by enrolling in the InternshipPreparation Seminar with Jonathan Ivanoff, associatedirector of internships. Ms. Ferro said he was anexcellent professor and that he sparked her motivationto apply for the Community Fellows Program. He alsohelped to improve her interview skills, résumé and coverletter, and ways to conduct an effective meeting.

Already ecstatic to learn she was accepted into theCommunity Fellows Program, she was even more elatedwhen she landed an internship at her first choice—the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New Yorkand Western New York. In Summer 2013, Ms. Ferroserved as a wish-granting intern, working for nine wish-grantingcoordinators throughout the wish process.Ms. Ferro conducted interviews for four enthusiasticand joyful children, contacted outside vendors, such asWalt Disney World Resort and other travel vendors, andlearned how to implement two server databases.

After her summer internship at Make-A-Wish, Ms. Ferrofelt she had grown as a professional. Make-A-Wish wassuch a welcoming, ever-growing and diverse workplacethat she wanted to continue working with them duringthe Fall 2013 semester. Bernadine Waller, M.A. ‘10,assistant director of experiential learning, served asher supervising mentor during her Community Fellowsinternship and was also the headcoordinator for the PanthersWith a Purpose program,which helped her continue herwish-granting internship, doingincredibly gratifying work.

The Center for Career Development has helped her to become the leader and professional she is today. She is extremely appreciative of Ms. Autry, Mr. Ivanoff, Ms. Waller, the Center for Career Development staff, and the wish-granting department of Make-A-Wish for inspiring and teaching her.

Ms. Ferro, slatedto receive a B.S. inCommunication Sciencesand Disorders nextMay, feels more confident and intuitive after gainingsuch valuable experience.
