Maracic found internships and jobs in the psychology field through the Center for Career Development.
Crista (Gallo) Maracic 鈥�13, M.A. 鈥�16, is no stranger to success. Through 91吃瓜网鈥檚 Jaggar Community Fellows Program, she landed an internship with the Catholic Charities Regina Residence,聽a program that鈥檚 dedicated to helping teenage mothers鈥攂oth emotionally and financially鈥攖hrough a difficult time. There, she worked closely and personally with several teenage mothers鈥攄riving them to work, running errands and coordinating activities. The Regina Residence was a family affair, as she even played a role in the upbringing of the children.
鈥淏y the end of the summer, I knew what every child ate, what every cry meant and when each child needed a nap,鈥� Maracic recalled. 鈥淚 observed one baby crawl, another take his first steps and another learn how to speak.鈥�
Maracic says that the internship changed her life and her perspective. Because of her performance in this internship, and several other opportunities she found through the Center for Career and Professional Development, Maracic is well on her way toward a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, having received her master鈥檚 degree in 2016.
鈥淭he Career Center has been instrumental in helping me prepare for professional endeavors,鈥� Maracic explained. She is currently a graduate assistant at the Center for Career and Professional Development.
Internships weren鈥檛 the only way Maracic made use of her time at Adelphi. While earning her B.A., she was president of the Psychology Club, vice president of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society聽in Psychology, and student coordinator of the Emerging Scholars Program at Adelphi鈥檚 Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies.
Now entering her third year in doctoral studies, Maracic has been busy exploring her field. This semester, she is an adjunct professor
for a practicum course in clinical psychology. She is working with veterans and their families at the Mildred and Frank Feinberg Division of the Unified Behavioral Health Center for Military Veterans and Their Families of Northwell Health.
