In high school, junior Monique Marcelle was very involved in extracurricular activities. Once she chose Adelphi, she knew she wanted to be involved just as she'd been in high school. As a first-year student, she heard about Black Students United (BSU) and went to a meeting.

According to healthaffairs.org, more than 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 every day—leading to an unprecedented spike in the number of homebound adults relying on home-based primary healthcare. Yet, today, the quality of home-based care for the nation's older adults is highly inconsistent.

Every year, through its 30 Under 30 and 40 Under 40 ceremonies, Long Island Business News (LIBN) honors bright and dynamic young professionals across Long Island who have made significant strides in their careers. The 30 Under 30 award recognizes 30 professionals who have made remarkable achievements in their career before turning 30, while the 40 Under 40 award recognizes 40 accomplished professionals under the age of 40.

After a year at an out-of-state school, Matthew Spirakis is back on Long Island, majoring in business at Adelphi. But the sophomore already has some impressive business experience under his belt.

Caio Gomes is a junior international relations major with minors in peace studies and environmental studies. He is also a Levermore Global Scholar, Adelphi's innovative academic community dedicated to preparing students to become global thinkers and leaders in a changing world. After college, Gomes plans to tackle issues regarding human rights, social and climate justice, and world peace.

Adelphi’s Innovation Center (IC), located on the first floor of Swirbul Library, launched in February 2020. Its mission is simple: to develop opportunities for applied learning by connecting faculty and students with external business partners to prepare students for today’s competitive job market.

91³Ô¹ÏÍø's Innovation Center is providing students and faculty with vital artificial intelligence (AI) and design thinking skills with help from IBM Skills Academy. After a successful pilot program in Summer 2021, Adelphi will once again offer their synchronous, noncredit certificate program in January 2022.

As a teenager, Olivia Maybee, a senior, always had a passion for activism. She was born in Buffalo, New York, and grew up on the Cattaraugus territory, one of three territories that make up the Seneca Nation, located just south of Buffalo.

Michael Hughes is a human intelligence collector for the U.S. Army and a returning student now in his junior year in the College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS), studying for a degree that will help him both professionally and personally.

When Carlos Ventura, now a senior majoring in biochemistry, first came to Adelphi in Fall 2018, the first-generation college student attended a meeting of the Latino Student Association (LSA) and immediately connected with the members of the group. He has called LSA his home away from home ever since.

On September 11, 2001, a 27-year-old management associate with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey went to his office on the 86th floor of One World Trade Center. When the building was hit shortly after, he led several coworkers to safety.

We continue to lead in the performing arts community. Adelphi alumni are contributing to the Broadway show Pass Over by Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu and Disney’s Winnie the Pooh off-Broadway. And an early work of Jonathan Larson ’82, creator of the musical RENT, is heading to Netflix.

For her senior thesis, physics major Gabriella (Gabi) Vidad '21 used remote sensing and widely available resources such as Google Earth to chart the severity of coral reef changes in the Philippines.

Rising junior Danelya Zholdasbekova's path to Adelphi was unexpected. While searching the internet for top New York business schools, the Kazakhstan native said she was attracted by descriptions of Adelphi's “close-knit, diverse community, its Honors College, scholarship opportunities, and beautiful campus and location."

Despite grueling schedules, our scholar-athletes continue to lead academically among all Northeast-10 institutions. Finishing first in Fall 2020, they've taken the top spot in eight of the past 11 semesters—winning in their sports and their studies.

As a nursing major at Nassau Community College, Will Torres, now a rising senior and first-generation college student, realized he wanted to explore other options at a four-year institution. Opening the doors of college education to nontraditional students is an important initiative at Adelphi. More than 60 continuing education workshops will help them advance their professional skills, and we offer them affordability and easy online access.

Adelphi continues to set the pace for student success. Our new policy decision removes the minimum GPA requirement for retaining academic scholarships—a step in support of equity and the mental health of students who rely on this important financial support.

Adelphi is known for helping each student find their own unique path. Alumna and 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Trustee Emily Ladau ’13 became a disability advocate, speaker, author of the forthcoming book Demystifying Disability, and a warrior for inclusion and justice. We’re proud to be involved in her important work.
