91Թ’s PiLambda Phi Fraternity brothers recently got a taste of what it’s like to walk in a woman’s shoes–literally. The annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event held on campus on March 24, 2016, helped raise awareness of domestic violence and gender equality. News 12 Long Island and were on the scene to cover the event and interview the fraternity members.

“The goal is to create aconversation about rapeculture on collegecampuses and not justcollege campuses butother spaces such asjobs as well,” Steven Joseph, philanthropy chairman of Adelphi’s Pi Lambda Phi chapter told a News Channel 12 reporter. “We’re livingin a society of rapeculture in which we havevictims who are afraid tospeak out because theirvoices is beingoppressed andsubjugated.”

The men who participated walked on campus in high heels to show their solidarity with women and raise money for Long Island AgainstDomestic Violence, an advocacy group thatruns a 24-hour hotline.

“One in three womendo experience some formof sexual assaultevery day,” said Joseph. “So it’simportant that they havea voice and they utilizeour Lambda Phi as aplatform.”
