{"id":157,"date":"2020-08-05T09:54:16","date_gmt":"2020-08-05T13:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/global-engagement\/?page_id=157"},"modified":"2020-08-05T13:07:48","modified_gmt":"2020-08-05T17:07:48","slug":"un","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/global-engagement\/campuswide-global-initiatives\/un\/","title":{"rendered":"United Nations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-158 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/global-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2020\/08\/academicimpactLogo.jpg\" alt=\"Academic Impact Member Logo\" width=\"119\" height=\"250\" \/>In 2003, the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations of the Department of Public Information (DPI) of the United Nations approved Adelphi as a nongovernmental organization (NGO), in recognition of the University\u2019s commitment to bringing \u201cglobal awareness of international issues and the United Nations to the university community and the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adelphi has joined more than 1,500 not-for-profit organizations worldwide working with the United Nations to raise awareness of pressing global issues.<\/p>\n<h2>National Model United Nations Collegiate Conference<\/h2>\n<p>Since 2003, Adelphi students have participated in the annual<span>\u00a0<\/span><a title=\"National Model United Nations Collegiate Conference\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nmun.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Model United Nations Collegiate Conference<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>as part of the National Model United Nations course offered by the Department of Political Science. They join more than 3,000 students from 40 countries in an intensive, five-day simulation of United Nations operations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-159\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/global-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2020\/08\/NGO-briefings-at-United-Nations-1-300x256-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"256\" \/>The program complements the course\u2019s rigorous examination of global governance, including the evolution of the U.N. system, its organization and structure, and its policies in the areas of peace and security, economic development and human rights.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in course allows students to apply their academic studies to a realistic simulation of negotiations across a broad spectrum of U.N. activities. From this intercultural perspective, students gain an intellectual understanding of global governance, along with getting hands-on experience in multilateral diplomacy. The course also organizes speaker\u2019s series with eminent scholars and U.N. representatives.<\/p>\n<h2>DPI\/NGO Annual Conference<\/h2>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-160\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/global-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2020\/08\/un-dpi-ngo.jpg\" alt=\"DPI-NGP Logo\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/>Adelphi works closely with the NGO Section of the U.N. Department of Public Information to facilitate student and faculty involvement in the annual\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/outreach.un.org\/ngorelations\/dpi-ngo-conference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UN DPI\/NGO Conference<\/a><span>\u00a0and special DPI\/NGO briefings at the U.N. Headquarters on global themes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Ambassadorial Lecture Series<\/h2>\n<p>91勛圖厙 regularly brings high-profile<span>\u00a0<\/span><a title=\"Ambassador Series\" href=\"https:\/\/events.adelphi.edu\/lectures\/ambassador-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.N. ambassadors<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>and officials from around the world to speak to our students about international affairs.<\/p>\n<h2>Conference on Peace and Human Rights<\/h2>\n<p>Adelphi hosts an annual campus-wide conference on peace and human rights, in partnership with the
