Purpose<\/h2>\n

An introductory statement or objective, no longer than two or three sentences. This should state the reason for, and intent of the organization.<\/p>\n

Article I: Name<\/h3>\n

The name of this organization shall be (full name of organization), hereinafter referred to as (shortened name of the organization as it will appear throughout the Constitution).<\/p>\n

Section 1 \u2013 Eligibility<\/h4>\n

State, in complete sentences, the qualifications for membership.<\/p>\n

Section 2 \u2013 Active Membership<\/h4>\n

State, in complete sentences, the qualifications for \u201cActing\u201d or \u201cVoting\u201d Membership in the organization.<\/p>\n

Section 3<\/h4>\n

If necessary, describe another class of membership, such as \u201cinactive.\u201d Keep the structure as clear and simple as possible.<\/p>\n

Article II: Officers<\/h3>\n

Section 1 \u2013\u00a0Numbers and Methods of Elections<\/h4>\n

The (name of organization) shall elect from the active membership a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer at the (for example the 2nd to last) meeting of the semester\/academic year. (Indicate further if any special nominating procedure is used and who is eligible to hold office).<\/p>\n

Section 2 \u2013 Duties of Officers<\/h4>\n

The President Shall:<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0Preside over all meeting for (name of organization.<\/li>\n
  2. Etc.<\/li>\n

    Continue list for each Officer of the organization, with a list of duties under each title.<\/p>\n

    Section 3 \u2013Terms of Office<\/h4>\n

    Indicate, in complete sentences, how long each officer is to serve. (Include whether officers may be re-elected to the same office position, etc.)<\/p>\n

    Section 4 \u2013 Impeachment of Officers<\/h4>\n

    Indicate, in complete sentences, whether officers may be impeached, grounds for impeachment and the procedure for impeachment.<\/p>\n

    Article III: Committees<\/h3>\n

    Section 1 \u2013 Standing Committees<\/h4>\n

    State, in one sentence, the standing committees of the organization<\/p>\n

    Section 2 \u2013 Duties of the Standing Committee<\/h4>\n

    For example:<\/p>\n

    The Constitution Committee shall:
    \nReview the Constitution each semester.<\/p>\n

    Article IV: Faculty Advisors<\/h3>\n

    Section 1 \u2013 Numbers and Terms of Office<\/h4>\n

    Indicate, in complete sentences, the number of Advisors the organization is to have and how long each will be asked to serve.<\/p>\n

    Section 2 \u2013 Method of Appointment<\/h4>\n

    State, in complete sentences, how the Advisor is selected by the organization.<\/p>\n

    Section 3 \u2013 Duties<\/h4>\n

    Indicate, in complete sentences, what responsibilities the Advisor is expected to fulfill.<\/p>\n

    Article V: Meetings<\/h3>\n

    Section 1 \u2013 Regular Meetings<\/h4>\n

    Indicate, in complete sentences, how often and approximately when regular meetings are held.<\/p>\n

    Section 2 \u2013 Special Meetings<\/h4>\n

    Indicate, in complete sentences, when special or \u201cemergency meetings\u201d are to be called, by whom and how members are notified.<\/p>\n

    Section 3 \u2013 Parliamentary Procedure<\/h4>\n

    All regular and special meetings of the organization shall be run under the rules of parliamentary procedures with \u201cRoberts Rules of Order\u201d revised as reference.<\/p>\n

    Section 4 \u2013 Quorum:<\/h4>\n

    (This is up to the individual organization) A quorum usually consists of more than half the total active membership.<\/p>\n

    Section 5 \u2013 (Optional)<\/h4>\n

    Indicate the required attendance at each meeting, if necessary.<\/p>\n

    Article VI: Amendments<\/h3>\n

    Section 1 \u2013 Procedure of Amendment<\/h4>\n

    Indicate, in complete sentences, the procedure for offering an amendment to the Constitution. As a general rule, amendments are submitted in writing and are read at the meeting before the vote is taken.<\/p>\n

    Section 2 \u2013 Ratification<\/h4>\n

    Indicate the vote necessary to ratify the amendment. Ratification is usually accomplished through either a two-thirds or three-fourths vote of the active membership.
